President's Message

2020-2021 President’s Message:

I am truly honored to be President of the Mortgage Bankers Association of Tampa Bay for the year 2020 – 2021.  We start this year out much different than past years with our COVID 19 challenges of meeting in person, seating restrictions, mask on, 6 feet apart, working remotely or furloughed, zoom meetings and keeping our families and ourselves safe; the economy shut down across the nation; protest destroying people and property; and all the while rates are at an all-time low keeping a majority of us are working 6 days a week, 10 to 12 hours a day.  In a world of ever-changing events and many of us changing our priorities in life, my vision for this year is to keep it simple and get back to the basics.  Our mission is to keep members informed of Federal and State legislation and Agency changes which may affect their business, provide education through monthly meetings, and create opportunities to connect with peers on specific concerns and foster productive discussions as well as sharing of information.

Our Executive Board and Board of Directors are busy packing this year’s membership luncheon meetings with great educational and fun events. Depending on the situation we continue to stay fluid offering some complimentary virtual meetings and when we are able again to meet face to face, meeting again at Brio at the International Mall.  We are starting the year off with Tony Polito’s Metrostudy Results via a GO TO Meeting.  The rest of the year consist of an oldie but goodie, Self-Employment Income Analysis presented by Essent MI, a Forbearance and What It Means Credit Wise presentation, the 36th Children’s Home Network Auction, an Outside family BBQ and Santa meeting, Success Signals presentation sponsored by MGIC, The Heartbeat of Tampa Bay – a professional panel from GTAR, PRO and County Appraiser, the Annual Richard Phillips Golf Tournament, an Affordable Housing Panel with guest Chip White from the Florida Housing Agency and other DPA Agencies, a Financial Planning & Will Seminar: How to plan in a crisis, and Installation with Professional Life Coach Tips presentation from Katie Hasson.  We are need of a MPAC annual sponsor, meeting and event sponsorships to help offset cost.  Please contact our Education Chair, Beth Larson, at beth.larson@essent.us or at 727-744-2014 if you are interested in promoting your business.

Do you a heart to serve?  Please consider joining one of our 8 committees (Children’s Home Network, Education, Event, Fundraising, Golf, Membership, MPAC & Web/Technology).  By serving on a committee it gets you involved with our organization and is a great stepping stone to joining our Board of Directors, but most importantly another outlet of having your voice and ideas heard.  Contact me if you are interested at gordontim0214@gmail.com or at 904-334-9391 and we can discuss more details of each committee.

Lastly, SAVE THE DATE for Wednesday, November 11th is our 36th annual auction fundraiser for the Children’s Home Network.  These children have come from homes where they were abused, neglected or abandoned and the Children’s Home Network gives them and families new hope for the future.  Mortgage Bankers Association of Tampa Bay has made a long-term commitment to help make their lives just a little better and this fundraiser making a difference.  The venue will be at the Bryan Glazer Family JCC on N. Howard in Tampa.  Please mark your calendar and plan to attend!!

Many blessings for everyone’s safety and wellness!

Thank you,
Tina Gordon
2020-2021 President, Mortgage Bankers Association of Tampa Bay
